RYA Day Skipper Shorebased

Length - 40 hours either as:-

5 day or 3 weekend crash course or evening classes (1 evening per week over 20 weeks)

Certification - Day skipper/ Watch leader shorebased completion certificate

Previous experience - None

STRONGLY RECOMMENDED for those looking to do Day Skipper Practical, Advanced Powerboat and Powerboat Instructor courses as knowledge to Day Skipper is required.

HIGHLY BENEFICAL for those looking to do Intermediate Powerboat courses.

RYA First Aid Course

Course length - 1 day or Update ½ day
Certification - RYA First Aid (Valid for 3 years)
Previous experience - None

Course Syllabus - Practical

CPR – resuscitation
Recognition and treatment of hypothermia
Treatment of an unconscious casualty
Rescue
Burn and heat injuries
First Aid kits
Injury, choking and the recovery position

Course Syllabus - Theory

The course covers resuscitation, control of bleeding, treatment of an unconscious casualty and the recognition of hypothermia. The syllabus is based on recommendations from the Health and safety executive and the Maritime and coastguard agency.

RYA/ MCA GMDSS

Course length - 1 day or 1/2 day for SRC update
Certification - RYA/ MCA GMDSS Short range certificate
Previous Experience - None, however knowledge of the phonetic alphabet and Mayday format will work to your advantage. Suggested reading material: RYA VHF handbook G22/02 (Available from Absolute Aqua)
