RYA VHF (GMDSS) RADIO COURSE
The VHF radio is an invaluable tool in the event of a life threatening disaster whilst on the water. It is also useful for routine communications with marinas, Coastguard, harbour authorities and other boats. Subsequently there are some legal requirements covering the equipment and licences and certificates to be obtained.
The course, run by the RYA under the authority of the Maritime and Coastguard Agency, is designed to provide you with the Certificate of Competence and will enable you to become familiar with the VHF – DSC system. RYA First Aid Courses
The course covers resuscitation, control of bleeding, treatment of an unconscious casualty and the recognition of hypothermia. The syllabus is based on recommendations from the Health and safety executive and the Maritime and coastguard agency more info
Diesel Engine Maintenance
The aim is to prevent engine break down at sea, however even the most well maintained engines can suffer mechanical problems and this course is designed to teach engine troubleshooting. Machinery failure is the main cause of rescue at sea but completion of this course should help prevent you from becoming another statistic. The course is equally valuable to the sailor with an auxiliary diesel, the powerboater and the motor-cruising enthusiast.

RYA Radar Course
Powerboats, yachts and motorcruisers increasingly have radars onboard. The International Regulations for the Prevention of Collisions at Sea state that if you have a radar onboard, you must know how to use it. This course satisfies the requirements of this legislation and some catergories of commercial work afloat.
The aim is to teach students to use small boat Radar to assist decision-making in navigation, pilotage and collision avoidance.
RYA Basic Navigation & Safety Course
A basic introduction to navigation and safety for anyone new to boating: powerboaters, jetskiers, sailors, sea anglers, divers and boatmasters. Also useful for experienced dinghy and keelboat sailors and inshore racers.
